No ImageI have been a member of Kettering Cycling Club for about 8 years. Before cycling I used to swim at county level and no longer participate in any other sports. I’m an Engineer and don’t cycle to my work.

It was seeing the Tour of Ireland when I was young that inspired me to cycle and have been cycling for 55 years since. I enjoy cycling because it is a great de-stresser. The rhythm of the pedals helps me to relax and forget any problems. My favourite cycling run is the Stanford Hall circuit via Cold Ashby.

The cycling discipline I am is most interested in is road racing but feel too old for that now so ride time trials instead. I remember my first race being a ‘25’ Club ride at Amersham in 1957. My best cycling performance was at The 10th Commonwealth Games RR, Christchurch, New Zealand in 1974 where I secured 26th place in the 114 miles road race (http://www.thecgf.com/games/games_index.asp). The longest distance I have ridden was 250 miles from London to Blackpool in 24 hours. My sporting ambition is to ride a 24 minute ‘10’ again.

Alberto Contador is the cyclist I most admire. When I’m not cycling I enjoy reading and history. My favourite food is lasagne and filter coffee is my favourite drink.
In the future in the UK cycling I would like to see a British cyclist win the Tour De France.
