I have been a member of Kettering Cycling Clubs for sixty four years. I’m the club president and a regular timekeeper and have been the Time Trial Secretary in my time. I have recently been awarded a national Badge of Honour from the Cycling Time Trials committee for my contribution to the wider cycling fraternity.
Before cycling I used to play snooker then became a referee. I officiated at the 1985 Amateur World Championships. Before retirement I was the manager of Mobile Radio in Wellingborough, a private retailer which is still going. I have always been interested in cycling and have been cycling for seventy five years, it was nearly the only transport back then! I enjoy seeing young people carrying on the sport and try to encourage this. I only do short runs these days and my favourite cycling run is on the Brampton valley old railway track.
I remember my first race being a club ‘10’ in 1947 on the A43-Red House-Buttocks Booth and back and did a 29.40. My best cycling performance was at The Butts Cycle Track in Coventry, where I competed after cycling there after my work. The longest distance I have ridden was 100 miles on a tandem with Brenda. I no longer have any sporting ambitions.
Lance Armstrong is the cyclist I most admire. Aside from cycling, I currently enjoy model railways and stamp collecting. My favourite food is fish and favourite drink is tea or coffee with 3 sugars!
In the future in the UK I would like to see road closure for ALL events.
